Can you tell me, if this is happening to you?
You will a hear a certain song, and one particular person or a particular event in your life will come in to your mind.
Even if I am busy in something else, once I've heard that song, it will flash back some memories to me.
How amazing our brain isn't it?
I'll call my entry "Name That Tune". Songs that remind me of a person/ group/ event in my life. And the short story behind it. Some are happy memories, sad memories, but definitely marked a special place in my heart.
TOP TEN COUNT DOWN:
10- I will by Beatles reminds me of Tel-tel
Who knows how long I've loved you
You know I love you still
Will I wait a lonely life time
If you want me to I will
She was my classmate and remain my barkada until now. I am her Bride's Maid when she got married to my cousin Kuya Michael and will be Ninang to their very cute son "Martee". She's one of my bestfriends, best among the best. During high school we love singing especially on our breaktimes, lahat ng usong kanta, alam namin, magdadala pa ng songhits. And we both love this song, we will sing together and we will immitate Maricel Soriano singing this song, I forgot what movie she is promoting that time. But up to now, pag nagkikita kami ni Tel, and talking of high school life, hindi pwedeng hindi namin mapag-usapan yang mga songs na favorite namin.
9- Kids Praise Songs by Psalty and Kids Praise/ Pambatang Papuri reminds me of my Childhood days
"Bata man ako, ang nais kong ipadama, sa Iyo O Diyos ang aking pagpupuri't pagsamba."
"Tandang tanda ko pa, ng minsang nauna, natapos sa pagkain, ako'y paalis na, inikot ikot pa, mga pinggan at mga tasa, upang wag daw akong madisgrasya"
"Be thankful, for all He has done, be thankful from the bottom of my heart, be thankful, come on everyone , cause Jesus is good to me."
I grew up in our church, kahit mga playmates ko, kasama ko na sa laro, pati sa simbahan, kasama ko din sila, every Sunday, we will be singing in our church. It was but happy childhood days for me.
Every vacation, I am attending DVBS, where the teachers will tell us bible stories and teach us songs about the Love of Christ.
I have all the copies (tapes) in our house in Philippines, kahit matagal na, tumutugtog pa naman, and once I hear thouse kids praise songs and pambatang papuri, feeling ko, bata ulit ako!
We are planning for a reunion, sana matuloy!
8- Bring me down by Rivermaya reminds me of Neil
Is it unfair
would you be aware
if i might
catch you in a stare
now tell me if it's okay
if i walk past your door today
i'm runnin out of happy things to say
In respect to him and his wife, I will not put his photo and not mention his full name, kasi baka magalit, hihihi.
He is my half-love, which I have mention also before in my blog My Half Love and Full One True Love.
He is an avid fan of Bamboo, kaya naman, when we are picking up for our theme song, we don't care of the lyrics, the meaning of the song, sige lang, basta Bring me down.....bata pa kasi eh! Di pala pang lovers ang lyrics, hihi... But anyway, I thanked him kasi, I have appreciated Rivermaya's songs. Also 20 Million reminds me of him. Those crying times when he suddenly quit!
7- Give Love on Christmas day by Jackson 5 reminds me of Jophet and Marianne
Why don't you give love
On christmas day
(on christmas day)
Oh, even the man
Who has everything
Would be so happy
If you would bring
Him love
On christmas day
(on christmas day)
No greater gift
Is there than love
It was on our Third Year High when the friendship between them was tested. Reason of girls' fight, "One Lucky Guy" hehehe... I will not detail the story as I was not involved in the Love Triangle, but am close to both of them. They were part of my circle of friends that time. It created a friction between the peer, and sometimes give us difficulty in dealing with them. But thank God, on our Senior Year, we are practicing for our Christmas Math Jingle, where they are both participants. We were singing Give Love on Christmas Day, and teasing them to reconcile, to kiss and make up...and they did! From that time on, pag nagkakasama-sama kami, and nagkakatabi sila, we will sing this song to them.
6- Now and Forever by Richard Marx reminds me of Bigboy
Whenever I'm weary, from the battle that rage in my head, You make sense of madness When my sanity hangs by a thread.
I don't have his pictures anymore here in Dubai. I've lost contact with him also, when my email address was hacked. He deleted his friendster account before due to his personal reasons. Hope to get in touch with him again.
His my childhood friend, we were classmates from Grade 2 up to Grade 6. We were living in same compound and we attend the same church. We were playmates as well, simula sa mga inosenteng mga laro nung mga bata pa kami, hanggang sa nagkaisip na kami pareho. Hanggang maaari, ayaw kong lumalim yung feelings ko sa kanya, because I know, one day, aalis din siya and he will go to Australia where his Mom is living. Lumipas ang mga taon, but his visa is still waiting, mas nauna pang nahulog ang loob namin sa isa't isa.
Until that day came, aalis na siya, I was crying that night when he inform me he will be leaving anytime, just waiting for the ticket. He told me, to wait for him. But I take it seriously, I've waited for him for couple of years, we were writing regularly, he is calling me in our house, even recording in voice tape and sending it to me and I can remember always ending niya sa akin is "Now and Forever, I will be your man." Yun kasi song niya sa akin. He has good voice, and we even sang a duet in the church. After 2 years, no more mails, no more letters, no more phone calls, and I have no choice but to move on with my life...But now, no more regrets....... reminiscing lang, ahihihi... Hope to have a contact with him again.
5- Angel by Shaggy reminds me of Heidi
"Girl, you're my angel, you're my darling angel
Closer than my peeps you are to me, baby
Shorty, you're my angel, you're my darling angel
Girl, you're my friend when I'm in need, lady "
When she was 5 years old, she spent her vacation in Philippines. She was my second cousin and now living in Germany, how I miss her, kasi every vacation niya, am here in Dubai. That time, she knew only few Tagalog words, and so, she was quiet and cannot mingle with the rest of the kids and us. But when I approached her, she smiled at me, and we talked and talked and talked, until we both cannot be separated anymore. Para kaming mag-ina that time, and I can remember, she's singing for me... "Ate Joanne, you're my angel, you're my darling angel...." so sweettt! It's my first time to cried so hard inside the Airport, nung hinatid namin siya, I really miss her... Promise ko sa kanya, she'll be my flowergirl on our wedding, but I don't think she'll agree, she's grown up already! I really miss you my Darling Angel Heidi Hello Kitty, Tweety Powerpuff Girl, hahaha! That's how I call her.
4- Handog by Florante reminds me of our Graduation
"Parang kaylan lang, ang mga pangarap ko'y kayhirap abutin, dahil sa inyo, napunta ako sa aking nais marating, Nais ko kayong pasalamatan kahit man lamang sa isang awitin."
This is our high school graduation song. Whenever I hear this song playing, I will be reminded of our Graduation Day. A week before our graduation, I was sick, very very sick, but I don't know what is the cause, even my family don't know what has happened to me. It was a case of emotional stress. Why? The graduating class with honors were announced two weeks before the graduation day, and I was not expecting, I will finished as salutatorian of our class. I need to prepare for my speech, I need to memorize it... Sobrang tensyon, kaya nagkasakit ako... But it was one of the happiest day in my life, I was teary-eyed and almost cry when we are singing "Handog".
"Guess what, you know last night
Yo, it was the best
I met a pretty girlie na taga-IS
Mayro'n siyang mga kasama, four to make it sure
I would like you to meet my friends"
And believe me, lahay sila ay may Mercedez Benz
This is Ana, this is Karen, this is Tanya, this is Jill
Lahat sila nakatira sa San Lorenzo Ville
I was on my elementary years that time, when the whole residents of the compound where we are living, had planned an excursion in Wonderland Resort, previously very nice place before the Mt. Pinatubo erupton. It has long slides, big swimming pools and nice cottages. From the jeepney which we have rented, everybody's excited while driving on the way from Bataan to Tarlac and singing to the tune of Andrew E's rap songs, mapabata, mapamatanda, indak ng indak at kumakanta. I memorize all his famous songs, jologs! haha.
2- Dakilang Katapatan by Arnel de Pano reminds me of my Tatang Cardo
"Sadyang kaybuti ng ating Panginoon, magtatapat sa habang panahon, maging sa kabila ng ating pagkukulang, biyaya Niya'y patuloy na laan... Dakila Ka O Diyos, tapat Ka ngang tunay, magmula pa sa ugat ng aming lahi."
As part of thanksgiving from our family, we gave a special number in our church, where I play the keyboard and all our family members sing in our church. It was the idea of my late-grandfather Tatang Cardo. I love him very much. He is very kind Tatang to us, very patient, very loving, very caring, very prayerful, very game and playful with his apo's, kaya naman we are all closer to him than our masungit na Inang Viring, hehe. When he was still alive, lahat kami laging nasa ancestral house. We love staying there, kasi andun si Tatang. Our faith as Born Again Christian, sa kanya nagsimula. You will see in his living, he is really a Man of God.
Lagi niyang bilin sa akin before, lahat ng pinsan ko, wag ko pabayaan, ako daw magturo sa kanila ng assignments, i'll help them do their projects, wala na siya ibang bilin sa akin, iyon lang. That is why, kahit nandito na ako sa Dubai, my cousins will keep on sending me mails regarding their assignments, projects, pati courses na kukunin sa college, they will ask advise from me. There were times, I am lazy in helping them, grabe, tatakutin ako mga pinsan ko, susumbong daw ako ke Tatang, hehehe... and I will be reminded of his last request from me.
This is my favorite Contemporary Christian Music, and Tatang thank you for letting me grow up in a Christian way of living!
1- Pagdating ng Panahon by Aiza Seguerra, reminds me of Tiya Denang
"Pagdating ng panahon, baka ikaw rin at ako, baka tibok ng puso ko'y maging tibok ng puso mo. Sana nga'y mangyari yun, kahit di pa lang ngayon, sana ay mahalin mo rin, pagdating ng panahon."
I stayed in Manila, particularly in Espana during my review for the board the exam in Adelina Street, beside P. Campa. It was owned by three old sisters, and managed by Tiya Denang. They are really old, their ages that time, is between 70-80 if I am not mistaken. They are staying on the apartment next to ours. Kaya, time to time, they will check and visit us in our boarding house.
One time, I am doing my laundry and while doing it, I am singing the song which is very popular that time "Pagdating ng Panahon". I never knew that Tiyang Denang, was there listening to me. And then when I look at my back, I saw her there. I stop singing, and tell her, Oh! Tiyang Denang, nandiyan pala kayo."
She told me, "Joanne, your voice is so sweet, you have a beautiful voice." Wait, just stay there, I will call my two sisters, so they can listen to you as well." Hala! at naghatak pa ng listeners.... and they ask me to sing it again. They all embrace me and kiss me.
What a sweet and loving memory for me.
Godbless you all!
This is your DJ for today, DJ Joanne a.k.a Museekah!
